Biography

As the Director of Graduate Student Life, Julie Choe Kim, Ph.D. (she/her/hers), promotes the success and well-being of Mason graduate students through engagement in professional development, personal development, community-building, and diversity, equity, and inclusion opportunities. She also serves as advisor to the Graduate and Professional Student Association (GAPSA). Julie has worked in student affairs in higher education for 20+ years in areas including graduate student life, student activities, multicultural affairs, and residence life. Her research interests include Asian American students, identity development, intersectionality, and graduate student success; her dissertation studied how Asian American college students make meaning of their racial identity as it intersects with other social identities.

A first-generation college graduate, Julie received her bachelor’s degree in English and master’s degree in Counselor Education from the University of Virginia and her Ph.D. in Student Affairs from the University of Maryland. Outside work, Julie enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, and reading.
